The Stokes Room

Mr. Henry Johnson died at an early age leaving behind a widow and a debt. Seems as though there was a mortgage on the home and Mr. and Mrs. Granville Stokes held the note. Not much is known about Granville and Cordelia other than they lived in Philadelphia and never lived on the plantation themselves. They leased it out to families and the property became known as "The Stokes Place".  There was a Granville Stokes that founded Perry & Co.'s Star Clothing House in Philadelphia, it was very successful clothing business and was later sold. It is amazing how the dates coincide for Mr. Stokes. A book was written about his Clothier and other manufacturing houses of Philadelphia the same year that Mr. Johnson died. Could this be the same Mr. Granville Stokes? Rates: In season $175.00 out of season $150.00.
